DFO Maritime Region - Maritime Environmental Data Service (MEDS)
MEDS is a branch of DFO. MEDS' mandate is to manage and archive ocean data collected by DFO and international programs, and to disseminate data, data products, and services to the marine community in accordance with the policies of the Department.

      Environmental Technology Centre (ETC)
The ETC provides specialized scientific support and undertakes research and development for Environmental Protection programs. The Centre focuses on four main areas: technologies for measuring air pollutants in ambient air and from mobile and stationary sources; analysis of a wide variety of organic and inorganic compounds in diverse samples; assessments and clean-up of contaminated sites; and prevention of and response to pollution emergencies such as oil and chemical spills.

      Great Lakes Sustainability Fund (GLSF)
The GLSF is a component of the Great Lakes Program's Great Lakes Basin 2020 Action Plan. The GLSF, which has evolved from the Great Lakes 2000 Cleanup Fund, was announced in July 2000 and aims to significantly accelerate work to restore the environmental quality of Canada's remaining 16 Areas of Concern (AOCs). The International Joint Commission (IJC) designated 42 AOCs, or pollution hot spots, within the Great Lakes basin in the late 1980's, because of environmental concerns in these areas.

      Environment Health Assessment Services (EHAS)
Environmental Health Assessment Services provides direction to Health Canada on all activities carried out under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).       Royal Military College (RMC)
The RMC provides degrees in Arts, Science, and Engineering. The RMC provides training and expertise in dealing with contaminated sites related to military activities. The Environmental Sciences Group (ESG) is a multidisciplinary team working on solutions to a wide range of environmental problems. The ESG has a range of experiences in risk management, the development of remedial technologies and applied research, with particular expertise in environmental assessments.       Federal Contaminated Sites and Solid Waste Landfills Inventory
The Government of Canada introduced the Federal Contaminated Sites and Solid Waste Landfills Inventory Policy on July 1, 2000. This policy states that departments and agencies that hold property must establish and maintain a database of their contaminated sites and solid waste landfills, and that this information must be submitted to the Treasury Board Secretariat for inclusion in a central inventory.
