Two contracts worth $7.7-million have been awarded to two Cape Breton companies as the clean-up of the Sydney tar ponds and coke ovens site continues.
McNally Construction Inc. of Port Hawkesbury has landed a $3.8-million contract to remove contaminated material from the coke ovens brook and to build a protective liner along its bottom.
The work, expected to run from April to October will connect the groundwater treatment system, which is under construction, with an engineered channel.
A $3.9-million two-year contract has also been awarded to ALL-TECH Environmental Services of Sydney, N.S., to continue monitoring air quality for the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency.
