CUI 2005 Brownie Award Nominations Deadline August 5

Nominations for the Canadian Urban Institute's fifth annual Brownie Awards recognizing brownfields closes August 5, 2005. The awards are once again sponsored by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

The expert assessment committee will once again endeavor to highlight accomplishments in leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability in brownfields redevelopment across Canada.

"We are looking forward to this year's Awards and anticipate a good response from high quality projects and programs," says Glenn Miller, vice president of education and research for CUI. "These are high-profile Awards and are growing in stature and prestige throughout the brownfield sector. Research has discovered and documented the huge impact winning this Award has had to the progress and continuing success of projects."

Presentations will be made at the sixth annual Canadian Brownfields Conference presented by the Canadian Brownfields Network (CBN), at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa on October 13-14.

The Awards comprise seven categories designed to provide recognition to all types of projects and programs that best contribute to brownfields remediation. These categories are:

Category 1 - Policy and Program Development at the National or Provincial Scale
Recognizes government policies, programs or new legislative initiatives

Category 2 - Programs, Communications, Education and Marketing at the Community Scale
Recognizes programs, consultation, communications and marketing initiatives

Category 3 - Green Design and Technological Innovation
Recognizes individual projects or development using green design and principals

Category 4 - Capital Financing and Risk Management
Recognizes projects or programs that makes good use of financing and risk management

Category 5 - Heritage / Adaptive Reuse
Recognizes projects or programs which features heritage conservation and adaptive reuse

Category 6 - Individual Achievement
Recognizes individuals who invest personal effort to further the cause of brownfield redevelopment

Category 7 - Best Project - All projects will be considered for this category
7A - Best Small / Medium Scale Project
7B - Best Large Scale Project
7C - Best Overall Project
