Ongoing communication is recommended throughout the process of redeveloping former service station sites in order to identify and resolve any issues that may arise before they become major problems. Education and communication related to the remediation and risk management approaches that are being considered for a site can help to alleviate concerns and avoid project delays.
With regards to mandatory public consultation, if Risk Management Measures (RMMs) are used, they must be posted for 30 days on the Environmental Bill of Rights Registry for public comment as part of the acceptance process. The submission for a Record of Site Condition (RSC) must be posted on the Brownfield Environmental Site Registry (BESR).
